According to the Organising Committee, Ca Mau is the programme’s first stop in 2018, with nearly 100,000 trees of different varieties, valued at about VND900 million, to be planted and presented to the locality. The trees will be planted at the national trig point of GPS 0001 in Dat Mui commune, Ngoc Hien district and in Cai Nuoc district.
The activity aims to improve the environment and landscape while also helping to prevent coastal erosion and limit the negative impacts of natural disasters and climate change in Ca Mau and the Mekong River delta.
The One Million Trees for Vietnam programme is a community initiative set up by the Vietnam Dairy Products JSC (Vinamilk) in collaboration with the Vietnam Environment Administration. Since its inception in 2012, the programme has been launched in a range of provinces and cities across the country, with around 580,000 trees of all kinds planted, and a total investment of nearly VND8 billion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Vo Tuan Nhan said that the socialisation of environmental protection, especially the promotion of plantation, management and protection of trees to improve the quality of the air environment is one of the major guidelines of the Party and State. “Our goal in organising events like this is to encourage the community to bring more ideas and care more about the trees and the planting of trees in localities across the nation," he added.
On the occasion, the Rising Vietnam Dairy Foundation and Vinamilk donated 66,000 glasses of milk (equivalent to VND450 million) to local pupils. The NA leader and the provincial authorities, together with the National Fund for Vietnamese Children, also presented 100 scholarships (worth VND1 million each) to local students in difficult circumstances.
According to Bui Thi Huong, Vinamilk CEO, Vinamilk and the Rising Vietnam Dairy Foundation want to use the programme to improve the nutritional status and maximise the physical and intellectual potential of Vietnamese children, as well as raising public awareness on the development of the country’s future owners.
In the ten years since its launch, the foundation has donated more than 33 million glasses of milk, totaling nearly VND140 billion, to around 420,000 children in provinces and cities across the country. In 2018, the foundation will raise VND10 billion to offer 1.7 million glasses of milk to nearly 19,000 children nationwide.
