On June 1, Politburo member and Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly Tong Thi Phong visited Da Nang Children's Palace and presented gifts to local children.
She praised local leaders in caring for children and teenagers, especially for setting aside such a most beautiful place in the central coastal city to build the palace dedicated to local children. The city also developed resolutions and guidelines to care for the younger generation, including caring for disadvantaged children, the disabled, orphans and children from families with meritorious services to the country.
Phong emphasised that Da Nang needs to continue promoting the results to the care more for the education of teenagers and children, towards a safe and developed Da Nang.
On the occasion, Phong and her entourage also presented 160 gifts to local children, victims of Agent Orange and those at Da Nang SOS Children's Village. They also planted souvenir trees at the Da Nang Children's Palace.
* Earlier on May 31, Da Nang municipal People's Committee held a ceremony in response to the Action Month for Children. At the ceremony, 100 scholarships worth VND2 million each were granted to 100 children with difficulties and those from ethnic minority groups in the city.
Marking the occasion, the city authorities and other relevant units have implemented a range of specific activities to support disadvantaged children in Da Nang with a total budget of VND420 million.
* A campaign entitled “Act for Children” was launched in Hanoi on June 1, with the goal of stopping school violence and child abuse through raising awareness of families, schools and the community.

The campaign was jointly sponsored by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (HCM CYU), the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Training.
On the occasion, a working group representing children and a child support club operated by the HCM CYU made their debut as part of the union’s working agenda on children protection.
The Central Council of the Ho Chi Minh Young Pioneer Organisation also announced the signing of a cooperative agreement with Plan International Vietnam on implementing a project promoting children’s right to participate in child issues, and another partnership with the fund for natural disaster control to present 32 swimming pools to 16 provinces and cities with high numbers of children killed in drowning accidents.
Several events were held the same day in response to the “Act for Children” campaign, including a training class on skills to counter child abuse and a painting gathering.
* On the occasion of International Children's Day, from now until the end of June 10, passengers under 12 will receive souvenirs from national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines when traveling on domestic flights with flight time of more than 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Along with gift giving activities, from June 1, Vietnam Airlines also launched two air ticket presenting programmes for children under 12 and for those with outstanding academic results.
* Also on June 1, nearly 300 Vietnamese and foreign children aged 5-15 who are living in Hanoi joined an international painting contest on the theme of "I love Hanoi – the city for peace".

The contest was organised by Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations in collaboration with Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, the Hanoi Cultural Centre and Hanoi Peace Committee in response to International Children's Day and welcoming 20 years since Hanoi was awarded the title "City for peace" by UNESCO.
Through their paintings, children expressed their wishes for peace, love for the homeland and Hanoi, as well as for beautiful nature, environmental protection and ending war, poverty and diseases.
