On Sunday evening (Oct 20), Chon's art auction house coordinated with XQ hand embroidery company to open an exhibition at Gallery No. 63, Ham Long Street, Hanoi, featuring paintings and embroidery works honouring the beauty of Vietnamese women.
On display were over 40 paintings in various materials depicting Vietnamese women of 20 famous artists of many generations, spreading aesthetic feelings from the gentle, charming image of Vietnamese women to their normal daily activities with the sharp strokes and bright colours of each talented painter.
The event also featured exchanges between painters and embroidery artists and the process of embroidery. For the first time, XQ embroidery artists practiced the procession of traditional embroidery thread and brought to the exhibition many embroidery artworks showing the craftsmanship and talent of female embroiderers.
* Earlier the same day, at the Ho Chi Minh City Book Street, the Ho Chi Minh City Cultural and Arts Publishing House presented awards to winners of a short story making contest on the theme of women.

Eight months after its launch on December 22, 2018, the competition had received 1,419 submissions as of August 22. The judges selected 19 works by 19 authors to the finals. The short story "Trang phan" by author Tong Phuoc Bao was awarded the First Prize, followed by one second, two third and five fourth prizes, along with the favourite prize as voted by readers on facebook.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, Prof., Dr. Huynh Nhu Phuong, a member of the jury, said that the competition brought about a rich and diverse picture of the portrait, personality, psychology and activities of Vietnamese women today, thereby helping readers understand more about life and the people across the country.
* On Saturday evening (local time), the Vietnamese community in Pyatigorsk City, southern Russia, hosted a gathering to honour typical overseas Vietnamese women in the community.

* A trade promotion workshop between businesswomen from Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) and an “ao dai” (Vietnamese traditional long dress) show were held in the RoK on October 20. The events took place within the framework of a working visit by a delegation of the VWU, led by VWU Vice President Bui Thi Hoa.
The workshop brought together more than 200 delegates, including representatives of Korean businesses which are operating in the spheres of tourism and hotel services, farm produce, cosmetics, construction and construction materials.
Vietnamese agricultural products as well as tourism and beauty services were also introduced at the workshop, along with a traditional Korean hanbok fashion show and art performances.
In related news, the VWU in the RoK held a ceremony in Bucheon City, Gyeonggi Province, on October 20 to celebrate its 5th founding anniversary. Established on October 20, 2014, the chapter aims to protect the rights and interests of Vietnamese women living and studying in the RoK.
