Nearly 12,000 lottery ticket sellers will each receive VND750,000 after the government decided to suspend issuing lottery tickets for national construction from April 1.
Director of the HCMC Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Le Minh Tan said the city’s decision is a timely one since lottery ticket sellers are one of the most affected by the outbreak.
Tan added that the city is also providing benefits to 32,000 households living below or near the poverty line, who have lost their jobs as businesses closed and stopped hiring them.
Each household is expected to receive VND1 million (US$43) per month for three months.
Another 15,000 HCMC citizens who are national contributors will also receive an additional VND500,000 (US$21.5) each month for a total of three months.
Furthermore, about 600,000 workers who lost their jobs or have had their employment suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak will be given VND1 million per month for three months.
This includes workers in six sectors, namely nursery education, transport, hospitality, mechanical engineering, garments and footwear, who are ineligible for unemployment benefits because their contracts have not been terminated.
Tan said the benefits will be provided to the beneficiaries promptly in April.
