The government senior official was speaking at a teleconference held in Hanoi on January 21 by the National Steering Committee for prevention and control of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods (NSC389) and the Government’s Steering Committee for crime fight (C138/CP).
The event was to summarise the work of the two committees in 2018 and deploy the tasks for 2019 under the chair of Deputy PM Binh, who is also a Politburo member and heads both of the committees.
According to reports at the event, in 2018, functional forces investigated and discovered nearly 44,000 criminal cases and handled more than 87,000 objects. Regarding the struggle against smuggling, trade frauds and counterfeiting goods, the functional forces discovered, arrested and handled nearly 203,000 cases, down 10% against 2017.
Applauding improvements in the crime prevention and control, Deputy PM Binh acknowledged the efforts of functional forces from the central to local levels in the fight against crime, contributing to stabilising the national socio-economic situation and strengthening confidence among the people.
He urged to promote the role of heads of agencies and units in the fight against crime to facilitate this work, while opening campaigns to actively prevent and suppress crimes, as well as strengthening inspection to detect, arrest and strictly handle smuggling and trade fraud during and after the Lunar New Year.
