Eighty years ago, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and President Ho Chi Minh, our people created an “earth-shaking event”, smashing the yoke of French colonial rule, bringing an end to the autocratic monarchy that had lasted for nearly a thousand years, and founding the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam — the first people’s democratic state in Southeast Asia. From that moment, Viet Nam appeared on the world map, and our people, from being slaves, became masters of their country and their own destiny.
The success of the August Revolution marked a decisive historical turning point. Vietnamese society moved from a semi-feudal colonial system to a new social order —socialism of the people, by the people, and for the people. The Vietnamese nation embarked upon a new era: the brilliant, glorious Ho Chi Minh era.
The victory of the August Revolution in 1945 was the crystallisation of the nation’s age-old aspiration for independence and freedom, a noble symbol of patriotism and the strength of great national unity. The August Revolution also bore the stature of the times and profound international significance, inspiring colonised peoples and the oppressed worldwide to rise up in the struggle for independence, democracy, and social progress.
The great achievements of the August Revolution affirmed the leading role of the Communist Party of Viet Nam — the genuine revolutionary party founded and trained by President Ho Chi Minh. The Party, based on Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought, has always upheld the banner of national independence and socialism; rallied the entire people; bound itself to the masses; combined national strength with the strength of the times; thoroughly andcomprehensively carried out the revolution; and steadfastly pursued the goal of national independence, freedom, prosperity, and happiness for the people.
Over the past 80 years, the Party, people, and army have resolutely and persistently defended the revolutionary achievements, while constantly promoting the enduring values of the August Revolution. These values include the immortal revolutionary spirit; lessons on building a strong party; establishing a broad and powerful political force of the masses; strengthening the great national unity bloc;grasping circumstances and seizing opportunities;combining national strength with global momentum; and evoking within the people the will for self-reliance, resilience, and the proactive, creative spirit of “using our own strength to liberate ourselves.”
Through arduous stages of revolutionary struggle, in all circumstances, the values of the August Revolution have remained a solid foundation and guiding light for the Vietnamese nation, uniting as one under the leadership of the Party. They have steered the revolutionary cause through all tempests, achieving extraordinary feats in the 20th century: defeating fascist, colonial, and imperialist invaders, gaining national independence, reunifying the Fatherland, advancing the entire country towards socialism, successfully implementing the Doi Moi (Renewal) process, and building and developing the nation.
With pride in the historic August Revolution, we shall forever remember the immense contributions of the great President Ho Chi Minh — the genius leader of the Vietnamese revolution — as well as the sacrifices of millions of heroes, martyrs, revolutionary veterans, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, and families who rendered their services to the Fatherland.
We pledge to continue promoting the great values and immortal spirit of the August Revolution in the new stage of national development; to inspire patriotism, national pride, unyielding willpower, unity, and determination throughout the Party, people, and army, aiming to create new feats in the 21st century, realise the aspiration for development, and lead the country firmly into a new era of prosperity and strength.
The entire Party, people, and army are accelerating efforts to meet and surpass the targets and tasks for 2025, contributing to the successful implementation of the Resolution of the 13th Party Congress, creating a solid foundation for the following stages, and ensuring the fulfilment of the century-long strategic goals under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
Ministries, sectors and localities are focusing efforts on preparing and successfully organising Party congresses at all levels for the 2025–2030 tenure, thereby contributing to the successful organisation of the 14th National Party Congress — a new milestone in the nation’s development journey.
Government bodies and localities are urgently addressing institutional and legal obstacles to accelerate progress, mobilise all resources, develop industries and sectors synchronously, and promote rapid and sustainable socio-economic growth, continuously improving the material and spiritual life of the people. The entire political system continues to streamline its apparatus, perfect the two-tier local government model, and operate the new administrative machinery effectively, meeting the requirements of the new situation.
Party committees and organisations are intensifying the building and rectification of the Party, coupled with strengthening the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style. Efforts are being made to enhance the capacity of leadership and managerial cadres, to foster innovation, creativity, and bold action for the interests of the nation and the people.
Each cadre and Party member should strive to cultivate revolutionary ethics, set an example, take the lead in all endeavours, and fulfil tasks well, so as to be deserving of being the core force guiding and rallying the masses under the revolutionary banner, with firm belief in the Party’s leadership, moving forward on the path of rapid and sustainable national development.
Eighty years have passed, yet the revolutionary spirit and lessons from the victory of the August Revolution remain intact, growing ever more profound and continuing to shine in the nation’s new era of development, towards the vision of 2045 — becoming a developed, high-income country as well as a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, and happy Viet Nam, steadily advancing on the path of socialism.
