The event served as a practical action in response to the Party’s guidelines, the State’s policies and laws, and Viet Nam’s international commitments to environmental protection, climate change response, public health, and sustainable development.
Huynh Thanh Dat, Member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilisation, presided over the event. The event was attended by Le Cong Thanh, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment; Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee; Ramla Khalidi, UNDP Resident Representative in Viet Nam; Angela Pratt, WHO Representative in Viet Nam; Ito Naoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Viet Nam; along with representatives of central ministries and agencies, international organisations, businesses, socio-political organisations, and a large number of citizens.
In his remarks, Huynh Thanh Dat affirmed that protecting air quality is not only an immediate requirement but also a long-term responsibility for the health of the people and the sustainable future of the nation.
Expressing deep sympathy for residents in central provinces suffering from floods and landslides, he emphasised that in the face of challenges posed by climate change and environmental pollution, the Party and State always regard environmental protection as a crucial and regular political task—one of the key pillars of sustainable development.
Representing the capital city, Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee, reaffirmed Ha Noi’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of air pollution management and control, steadfastly pursuing the goal of building a green, clean, beautiful, and liveable capital.
Speaking on behalf of international organisations, Ramla Khalidi and Angela Pratt highly appreciated the strong commitment of the Vietnamese Government to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and move towards net zero by 2050. They also expressed their admiration and affection for the capital city, Ha Noi.
At the event, delegates witnessed the data connection ceremony linking air quality sensors to the national monitoring system, as well as the signing of a joint commitment to “Join Hands for a Blue Sky in Viet Nam.”
Delegates and participants then joined a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake’s pedestrian space to promote messages on adopting green transport options and reducing emissions from private vehicles. They also viewed the “For a Blue Sky in Viet Nam” poster exhibition created by Ha Noi’s children, and signed pledges to spread the message “For Every Breath.”
