Accordingly, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Linh was assigned as a Joint Military Operations Officer (SO JMOC) at the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). This is a new position that the United Nations has invited Viet Nam to participate in for the first time, demonstrating trust and high regard for the capabilities of Viet Nam’s peacekeeping force.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Thai Son was appointed as Training Advisory and Coordination Officer at the European Union Training Mission in the Central African Republic.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of National Defence, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang, commended the efforts of the Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and the relevant agencies and units in selecting, training, and preparing the force to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
He emphasised that dispatching officers to take part in international missions continues to affirm Viet Nam’s prestige, responsibility, and active role in the international community. He called on the officers to thoroughly grasp and strictly implement the Party’s, State’s, and Army’s foreign policy guidelines and orientations; to comply fully with United Nations regulations and the laws of the host country, while demonstrating professionalism and competence, thereby contributing to promoting Viet Nam’s image and the reputation of the Viet Nam People’s Army on the international stage.
On behalf of the deployed officers, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Ngoc Linh expressed his honour and pride in being trusted by the Party, State, and Army to undertake this mission. He pledged to complete the task with outstanding success, contributing to promoting the image of Viet Nam’s land and peace-loving people.
To date, Viet Nam has deployed nearly 1,300 personnel to UN peacekeeping operations across three missions and UN headquarters.
