A solemn ceremony was held to pay respects to, commemorate, and rebury the remains of 47 fallen soldiers from Battalion 920, Regiment 148 (Northwest Military Region), who died during the resistance war against French colonialists. in Binh Lu Commune, Lai Chau Province on the morning of August 10.

The southern province of Tay Ninh has recovered 519 sets of fallen soldiers' remains in Viet Nam and Cambodia, with most of the DNA sampling completed after 60 days of a nationwide 500-day campaign to speed up the search, as well as the 2025–2026 dry-season recovery mission.

On August 3, at Ham Rong Martyrs’ Cemetery, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Military Command coordinated with the Party Committee and authorities of Ham Rong Ward to collect samples from unidentified martyrs’ remains for DNA testing.

The war ended long ago, but around 230,000 martyrs’ graves remain unidentified, while the remains of approximately 175,000 fallen soldiers have yet to be recovered. Restoring their names is therefore not only a responsibility and a duty, but also a mission that comes from the heart of every Vietnamese person.

Forces participating in the 500-day-and-night campaign had recovered the remains of 1,488 fallen soldiers as of July 25, according to the national steering committee for the search, recovery and identification of fallen soldiers' remains (Steering Committee 515).

The ongoing effort to restore the identities of fallen soldiers, carried out with the utmost reverence, gratitude, and sense of responsibility, not only offers renewed hope of reunion and gives families a chance to find their loved ones after decades of waiting, but also stands as a vivid expression of the nation's tradition of gratitude and the responsibility of today's generation towards those who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence and freedom.

Nearly 1,400 sets of fallen soldiers’ remains have been recovered nationwide after four months of implementing the 500-day campaign to search for and recover soldiers whose burial locations or identities remain unknown.

In the central province of Quang Tri, teams are working tirelessly to upgrade the final resting places of fallen heroes, while intensifying efforts to locate, recover and collect DNA samples from martyrs’ remains so that they can be returned to their families as soon as possible.

Some mothers carried a lifelong anguish, never knowing where their children lay. More than 50 years after the war, a DNA collection and matching programme implemented by the Ministry of Public Security has helped restore the identities of many fallen soldiers and bring seemingly hopeless searches to an end.

More than 1,300 sets of fallen soldiers' remains have been recovered so far, including those from three mass graves, during the first 111 days of the nationwide 500-day campaign to accelerate the search for, recovery and identification of war martyrs, an official said on July 4.

As part of the 500-Day Campaign to accelerate the search for, recovery and identification of the remains of fallen soldiers, expanding international cooperation has been identified as one of the key measures to enhance the effectiveness of this important mission.

The war ended more than half a century ago, yet the pain and the longing for reunion remain deeply etched in the hearts of millions of Vietnamese families. Therefore, the search for, recovery, and identification of remains of fallen soldiers is not only a political task, but also a call from the heart — a sacred mission of the entire nation.
