Thong Nhat Hospital celebrates 40th anniversary

Thong Nhat Hospital held a ceremony to celebrate its 40th anniversary and launch the book entitled 'Prof. Nguyen Thien Thanh, heroic soldier and physician' in Ho Chi Minh City on October 31.

Thong Nhat Hospital was established after the Southern Liberation in 1975 with Prof. Nguyen Thien Thanh being the first Director of the hospital.

Over the past 40 years, the hospital has been expanded from 450 beds and 25 departments to 1,100 beds, 40 departments and more than 1,200 medical workers.

The hospital has performed well its main tasks of providing health check-ups and treatment for middle-ranking and senior officials as well as the people, and has been presented with many noble titles and Orders.

At the ceremony, the hospital was presented with the Labour Order, third class from the Vietnamese State, and the Freedom Order, third class from the Lao State in recognition of its achievements in the past 40 years.

On the occasion, the book on Prof. Nguyen Thien Thanh was launched which features the life and career of the late doctor, Labour Hero, People's Doctor and the first Director of Thong Nhat Hospital who has made great contributions to the development of the hospital.
