Three Vietnamese farmers awarded for best business plans

The International Labour Organisation held an award ceremony in Hanoi on December 5 to honour three outstanding farmers for their business plans.

The 'Business Plan' award went to Nguyen Thi Lan from the northern province of Phu Tho. Her embroideries development business plan received compliments from the juries for its creativity and feasibility as well as potential to create jobs for local women.

The 'Creative Plan' awards was presented to Pham Doan Duong from the northern port city of Hai Phong. His plan aims to preserve the traditional crafts and generate jobs for local people.

Meanwhile, Nong Thi Hue from Yen Bai northern mountainous province received the Green award for her initiative to develop a garbage collection facility in her commune. The plan was considered practical and beneficial to the environment.

Each winner received a prize of US$4000, funded by ILO, which comprises cash and technical support.

A competition to choose the most ambitious entrepreneurs among farmers was organised by the ILO as part of its support to the One Million Farmers Initiative.

One Million Farmers Initiative is the Vietnamese Government’s effort to improve the quality of rural workers in light of the increasing demands of industrialisation and modernisation in the rural area. The project aims to provide training to at least one million workers a year from 2009 until 2020, including farmers, members of poor households and the local authority staff.
