In his address, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc affirmed that Le Quy Don was one of the nation’s greatest scholars and an outstanding intellectual of 18th-century Viet Nam.
Le Quy Don left behind a vast intellectual and academic legacy spanning numerous fields, including history, geography, literature, philosophy, education, military affairs, economics, agriculture, and diplomacy.
Tuc said Le Quy Don’s life and career stand as a powerful symbol of Viet Nam’s tradition of learning and spirit of self-education, innovative thinking, dedication to the nation, and profound sense of responsibility towards the country.
The Deputy PM stressed that UNESCO’s adoption of a resolution honouring Le Quy Don represents international recognition and tribute to his significant contributions to the world’s treasury of knowledge and culture.
It also affirms the standing of Viet Nam’s long-standing civilisation within the broader course of world civilisation.
He said that the 300th anniversary of Le Quy Don’s birth is not only an occasion to honour an exceptional cultural figure, but also an opportunity to reflect more deeply on the value of knowledge, while inspiring a stronger spirit of learning, innovation, and dedication.
As Viet Nam places strong emphasis on advancing science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and deeper international integration, the intellectual values, scholarly spirit, lifelong commitment to learning, and rigorous research methods exemplified by Le Quy Don have become more relevant than ever.
Tuc called on Hung Yen Province, the birthplace of Le Quy Don, to continue conducting in-depth research into the scholar’s life, ideology, and legacy, while stepping up efforts to collect, catalogue, translate, annotate, publish, and digitise his works.
He also urged the organisation of educational programmes, exhibitions, competitions, and experiential activities to bring the enduring values embodied in Le Quy Don’s life and career closer to younger generations, fostering a spirit of lifelong learning and promoting his belief that learning should go hand in hand with practical application.
Addressing the ceremony, Hung Yen Party Secretary Pham Quang Ngoc affirmed that the rich legacy left by Le Quy Don would serve as an important foundation for building Hung Yen into a fast-growing, sustainable, cultured, civilised, and prosperous province, driven by breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
During the ceremony, the Head of the UNESCO Office in Viet Nam presented UNESCO’s resolution honouring Le Quy Don to the leaders of Hung Yen Province.
