The exhibition is jointly hosted by the Viet Nam National Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), the Hung Yen Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Hung Yen Provincial Cultural Centre, and relevant organisations.
The exhibition showcases approximately 200 photographs, documents, artefacts, reproductions of Han-Nom materials, woodblocks, stone inscriptions, ancient books, and a wide range of scholarly materials assembled from archives, museums, libraries, research institutions, the Le Quy Don family lineage, and other related organisations. The exhibition space is designed along a historical narrative, combining traditional display methods with contemporary exhibition art to recreate the journey from Le Quy Don's homeland, life, and career to his intellectual legacy and enduring values.
The exhibition presents the background, homeland, family, and scholarly journey of the eminent polymath through documentary photographs, ancient maps, genealogical records, stone inscriptions, woodblocks, and other related materials. The section illuminates one of the greatest scholars of the 18th century, highlighting his spirit of learning, dedication, and sense of responsibility towards the nation.
"Documentary Heritage – The Quintessence of Knowledge" is the exhibition's central theme, showcasing the extensive body of works produced by scholar Le Quy Don across numerous fields, including history, geography, philosophy, military studies, diplomacy, agriculture, literature, and bibliography. The displayed materials, reproductions of ancient books, Han-Nom documents, woodblocks, and scholarly research afford visitors a deeper appreciation of the scientific and historical value of his major works while reaffirming Le Quy Don's position in the academic history of Viet Nam and East Asia.
"The timeless intellectual legacy of scholar Le Quy Don" explores his ideas on ethics, education, state governance, national development, the protection of sovereignty, and human development through his famous quotations, excerpts from his writings, poetry, stone inscriptions, and numerous scholarly materials. The section underscores his patriotism, respect for talent, commitment to learning, and encouragement of creativity, all of which continue to inspire future generations. It also affords visitors an opportunity to appreciate the enduring relevance of these ideas to Viet Nam's nation-building and development today.
"Historical sites and memorial artefacts dedicated to scholar Le Quy Don" showcases memorial sites, architectural works, commemorative complexes, ancestral temples, stone steles, statues, royal decrees, horizontal lacquered boards, parallel sentences, and many valuable artefacts preserved in his homeland and various localities across the country. This section serves to promote the cultural heritage associated with his name while establishing Hung Yen Province as a destination of cultural and historical significance.
"Preserving and promoting the heritage of scholar Le Quy Don" underscores significant achievements in the inventory, collection, research, translation, publication, and preservation of heritage related to him. The section also details research activities, traditional education programmes, academic conferences, exhibitions, book publications, and communication initiatives aimed at disseminating his legacy throughout the community, thereby promoting the historical, academic, and humanistic values of scholar Le Quy Don in contemporary society.
According to the Organising Committee, the exhibition not only illuminates the portrait of one of Viet Nam's greatest scholars but also reaffirms the enduring significance of his thought, scholarship, and moral character. These invaluable legacies will continue to contribute to the development of an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity, the cultivation of high-quality human resources, and the fostering of national development aspirations.
Staging this exhibition represents a meaningful initiative marking the 300th birth anniversary of scholar Le Quy Don (1726–2026). It also contributes to executing Politburo Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW on the development of Vietnamese culture, while affirming Viet Nam's responsibility for preserving and promoting cultural heritage and fulfilling its commitments to UNESCO regarding the recognition and celebration of cultural luminaries whose influence extends across the region and the world.
