The event was attended by representatives from ASEAN member states and major e-commerce platforms.
At the event, domestic and international experts agreed on a rapid coordination mechanism aimed at fostering a transparent business environment.
Technical support from the UK is expected to help Viet Nam effectively manage cross-border e-commerce, ensuring stronger protection for consumers.
Speaking at the event, DMS Director Tran Huu Linh stressed that multilateral cooperation is key to the effective governance of cross-border e-commerce, while also contributing to a transparent and safe business environment.
On the UK side, Deputy Ambassador Alex Strugnell reaffirmed his country’s continued support for Viet Nam in advancing digital transformation, particularly through experience-sharing, training, and technical assistance in product safety.
One notable outcome of the summit was the push for an ASEAN Product Safety Portal, enabling member states to exchange real-time data on unsafe products and product recalls.
This mechanism helps curb the cross-border circulation of unsafe goods while enhancing coordination among regulatory authorities.
The UK also shared experience from its product safety database system, helping regulators transition from manual monitoring to technology-driven approaches.
The summit also presented web-scraping tools that allow regulators to focus monitoring on high-risk product categories such as electrical equipment, toys, and cosmetics.
At the same time, a Southeast Asia-UK e-commerce platforms liaison group was launched to establish a rapid coordination channel between regulators and businesses.
Closer cooperation between Viet Nam and the UK, along with ASEAN countries, is expected to help build a safe and transparent e-commerce environment, thereby promoting the sustainable development of the domestic market.
