Viet Nam welcomes 5.5 million tourists during National Day holiday

Viet Nam’s tourism sector served an estimated 5.5 million visitors during the four-day National Day holiday (August 30 – September 2), marking an 83.3% increase compared with the same period last year, according to the National Authority of Tourism.

As the final peak of the 2025 summer season, destinations nationwide prepared thoroughly with upgraded facilities, enhanced services and additional staff. Many cultural and historical sites offered free entry, while localities organised festivals and events to attract travellers.

New tourism products were also introduced, such as “Ha Noi 5 Gates” double-decker tourist train, Ninh Binh’s bamboo-built “Historic Road” recreating the 1945 Declaration of Independence, and Quang Ngai’s “Step into the Clouds” night tour at Bui Hui grassland.

Airlines expanded capacity to meet soaring demand, with Viet Nam Airlines supplying over 600,000 seats (2,900 domestic flights), an increase of more than 100,000 seats year on year, while Vietjet added 10,000 seats. Railway operators also scheduled over 50 additional trains on key routes.

Ha Noi emerged as the holiday’s focal point, welcoming 2.08 million visitors – triple last year’s figure – including more than 80,000 international arrivals. Tourism revenue in the capital reached an estimated 4.5 trillion VND (170.4 million USD), up 80%, with hotel occupancy averaging 83%.

Other major destinations also reported strong inflows, including Ho Chi Minh City (1.45 million), Hai Phong (1.03 million), Khanh Hoa (907,952), Da Nang (620,000, including 168,000 international visitors), and Lam Dong (590,000).

The authority noted a rising preference for northern “back-to-the-roots” tours commemorating the 80th anniversary of National Day, alongside steady demand for coastal and eco-resorts near major cities. Tourism services remained stable with no major incidents reported, though some destinations experienced overcrowding, hotel shortages in central Ha Noi, and weather disruptions from post-storm rains in the north.

Despite these challenges, the strong holiday performance is seen as a positive signal for Viet Nam’s tourism industry ahead of the year-end and New Year peak seasons.
