Vietnam ASOCIO ICT Summit opens

The Vietnam – ASOCIO ICT Summit 2014 opened in Hanoi on October 29, bringing together over 700 senior officers of IT associations and companies from 20 leading economies in Asia and Oceania.

The forum is the largest international event for ICT in Asia and Oceania held by the Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation (ASOCIO) in each regional country annually. This is the second time the event is hosted by Vietnam.

Speaking at the opening session, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam stressed that ICT was an indispensable driving force of development. The convergence of social networks, mobile phones, and cloud computing, would certainly create new platforms in which all individual values ​​would be promoted at the highest level.

Deputy PM Dam said that technology in general, especially IT, would open the door to creating opportunities for all. From developed to developing countries, ICT can help enhance competitiveness and contribute more to the global value chain, he added.

He praised the inclusion of agriculture and rural development in discussions at this year’s event, saying that achievements in IT applications in agriculture shared at the forum would help Vietnam move its agricultural industry towards green, sustainable development.

After the opening, eight panel discussions were held, focusing on three topics: IT – agricultural restructuring; IT and  new development methods to improve the efficiency of public services; and SMAC, a platform for smart technology development.

The event is held in Hanoi and Da Nang until October 31 with a range of activities, discussions and exhibitions on ICT products and solutions.
