The signing ceremony was held at the 15th session of the two committees in Ho Chi Minh City on July 25.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by member of Party Central Committee, Defence Deputy Minister and head of the government’s Specialised Committee Lieutenant General Le Chiem; meanwhile the Cambodian delegation was led by Advisor to the Cambodian government and deputy head of its Specialised Committee Seang Lapress.

Addressing the session, Lieutenant General Le Chiem extended his congratulations to the Cambodian government and people for their political, socio-economic, defence and security development over the past years.

He also emphasised that Vietnam has always appreciated the country’s efforts in retrieving the remains of Vietnamese volunteer martyrs in Cambodia.

At the meeting, Seang Lapress also congratulated the achievements the Vietnamese government and people had made. He affirmed that the two sides have actively and closely co-ordinated in collecting martyrs’ remains, as well as believed that the co-operation would continue to bring more efficiency.

During the 2015-2016 dry season, the two committees searched and collected 748 remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts.

The two sides also committed to enhance co-ordination in directing the military zones and local governments to see more results in collecting and repatriating martyrs’ remains, as well as encourage people to provide more information on the graves of martyrs.
