In her speech at the event, National Assembly Chairwoman, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, acknowledged the service of the VCG, reaffirming the Party and State’s consistent policy on safeguarding and developing the sea-based economy, evidenced by the adoption of the Vietnam Maritime Strategy towards 2020 and the Law of the Sea.
She asked the VCG to advance its operations and thoroughly grasp and strictly observe the Party’s guidelines and policies on military and defence tasks, while promptly advising the Party and State on the construction of laws in regards to sea and island issues.
She underlined the important tasks of Party building, human resource training, and the popularisation of laws to the general public and fishermen.
The force is also requested to attach due attention to stepping up international cooperation and information exchanges, while coordinating with foreign maritime law enforcement agencies and other functional agencies to address sea-related issues, contributing to the safeguarding and maintaining of national maritime sovereignty, security and safety, she emphasised.
