Rolldock Sea started its journey from St Petersburg port on November 15 and docked in Cam Ranh port on the first day of 2014.

According to plans, the cargo vessel will be partially submerged on January 3 so that the submarine can sail off.

The Hanoi is the first of six Kilo-class diesel-electric submarines built by Russian shipyard Admiralty under an order placed by Vietnam during Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Russia in 2009.

The submarine, measuring 73.8 metres long and 9.9 metres wide, has a maximum submerged speed of 20 knots, an operational depth of 240 metres and an endurance time of 45 days.

It is equipped with six 533-milimetre torpedo tubes, Club-S anti-ship missiles, mines and other weapons.

The purchase of submarines is part of the plan to modernise and enhance the defence capacity of the Vietnamese People’s Navy.
