This was affirmed by Vietnamese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Trinh Thi Minh Tam at a gathering of Vietnamese nationals living, studying, and working in Sri Lanka to mark the occasion the upcoming Lunar New Year, held on the evening of January 31.
Ambassador Tam stressed that this year’s event was all the more meaningful as it coincided with the success of the 14th National Party Congress, as well as the major achievements Viet Nam recorded in 2025.
According to the diplomat, within this process, the overseas Vietnamese community, including those in Sri Lanka and the Maldives, continues to be an important and inseparable part of the nation.
She noted that in 2025 the Embassy organised more than 50 activities to mark the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka and the 50th anniversary with the Maldives
A standout highlight of this year’s community Tet programme was the vivid recreation of diverse Vietnamese Tet traditions in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo.
While competitions such as making banh chung and banh tet and arranging the five-fruit tray created a lively atmosphere, the traditional ao dai fashion show fostered intergenerational connections.
The cultural space also featured calligraphy activities for the new year, a simulated banh chung boiling stove evoking the flavours of Tet back home, alongside folk games, prize quizzes, cultural performances, and lucky money given to children.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Nguyen Mai Trinh shared her emotions at being able to celebrate Tet together in a space rich in Vietnamese identity.
She also expressed her gratitude to the Embassy for its constant care and support, serving as a pillar for overseas Vietnamese to remain united and connected to their homeland.
In closing the programme, Ambassador Trinh Thi Minh Tam extended New Year wishes to all community members and expressed her hope that the community would continue to stay united, respect local laws and culture, and further promote its role as a bridge for people-to-people exchanges.
She called on the community to continue working closely with the Embassy to promote the image of Viet Nam, along with its people, culture, and history, and to further develop the traditional friendship between Viet Nam and Sri Lanka.
