Vietnam's tourism sector reaps fruitful growth during Tet holiday

During the 2025 Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, localities across the country greeted nearly 12.5 million domestic travellers, a 19% increase year-on-year. International arrivals also surged as compared to the same period last year. Several provinces and cities recorded tourism revenues exceeding 1 trillion VND.

The weather was quite favourable during the nine-day holiday, facilitating vibrant and bustling tourism activities at destinations across the country.

Tourists flocked to famous heritage, spiritual, and cultural destinations in various localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Vung Tau, Hanoi, Mui Ne, Hoi An, and Sa Pa. Northern mountainous regions also attracted large numbers of travellers from the South.

Ho Chi Minh City welcomed around 2.1 million tourists, a 16.7% increase year-on-year, and earned an estimated 7.69 trillion VND (305.4 million USD) in tourism revenue, up 17.4%.

The capital city of Hanoi hosted approximately 1 million holidaymakers, up 6%, with revenue of 3.53 trillion VND (140.2 million USD), an increase of 7.85%.

The northern port province of Quang Ninh saw roughly 969,000 tourists, and gained 2.665 trillion VND in total revenue, marking a 21% and 71% increase compared to the same period in 2024, respectively.

Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province anticipated around 869,433 arrivals with total tourism revenue projected at 558.4 billion VND, up 27.09% and 23.78% year on year.

Other destinations, including Khanh Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Kien Giang, and Da Nang, also recorded significant increases in both visitor numbers and revenue.

Hotel occupancy rates were notably high during peak days. Sa Pa reached 90-95%, while Kien Giang recorded 73.4%. Other major destinations that saw strong demand, included Ho Chi Minh City (65%), Hue (63%), Phu Yen (62%), and Da Nang (50%).

International arrivals also surged during this period. Accordingly, Quang Ninh welcomed 228,700 international tourists, followed by Da Nang with over 228,000, Quang Nam with 157,000, Hanoi with 142,000, and Ho Chi Minh City with 87,358.

The results were driven by the positive effects of favourable visa policies, strategic restructuring of the tourism market, and businesses’ and localities’ efforts to refresh products and conduct extensive promotional activities.

Positive signals from the tourism market during this holiday have opened up many expectations and created momentum for Vietnamese tourism to continue thriving throughout 2025.

Major travel agencies such as Hanoitourist, Saigontourist, Vietravel, and Benthanhtourist introduced new tourism products and promotional programmes, leveraging regional strengths and encouraging a “one journey, multiple destinations” approach.

Notably, the holiday also saw an increase in international cruise passengers. Da Nang welcomed Crystal Symphony and Silver Dawn, with 1,800 American and British passengers on board. Quang Ninh received four cruise liners - Mediterranea, Celebrity Solstice, Silver Dawn, and Crystal Symphony - with 6,000 passengers and 4,000 crew members.

The recent Tet holiday witnessed vibrant tourism activities across Vietnam, with rising visitor numbers and strong revenue growth. Positive signals from the tourism market during this holiday have opened up many expectations and created momentum for Vietnamese tourism to continue thriving throughout 2025.
