The 10th International Exhibition on Shipbuilding and Offshore Technology (Vietship 2025) officially opened in Hanoi, on the morning of March 5.

This event, organised by the Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (SBIC) in partnership with the Vietnam Shipbuilding Engineering Joint Stock Company (VISEC), will continue until March 7.

It features significant activities such as a buyers’ forum, specialised conferences focusing on the green transition in the maritime and offshore wind sectors, as well as contract signings and partnership agreements.

Vietship 2025 highlights innovative advancements, particularly in shipbuilding and offshore technology.

The exhibition hosts nearly 200 booths from over 100 prominent domestic and international companies, including key industry representatives from Norway, the Netherlands, China, Finland, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, and other nations.

During the Vietship 2025, Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Xuan Sang commended SBIC, its sponsors, and the 103 participating companies for their contributions to the exhibition's success, which featured over 200 booths. He highlighted the significance of this year's event, noting it represents a pivotal moment for SBIC and Vietnam's leading shipbuilding and offshore industry exhibition, especially after the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

He stated, "Vietnam has established an economic growth target of 8% this year, necessitating the involvement of key sectors, including maritime and shipbuilding. The nation is also advancing its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions, and SBIC is currently undergoing a thorough restructuring process."

Dr Pham Hoai Chung, Chairman of the Members' Council at SBIC, emphasised that maritime transport and shipbuilding industries have the most far-reaching impact on maritime nations' economic development strategies.

As part of the exhibition, a series of specialised conferences will be held, covering topics such as: the development of Vietnam’s shipping fleet and shipbuilding industry; opportunities and competitive advantages in Vietnam’s shipbuilding sector; green technology solutions and applications in ship design and construction by Damen Group worldwide; the current state and fleet renewal investment plans of Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC); an introduction to new conventions and regulations on green energy-powered ships; and the inheritance and future direction of shipbuilding in the digital transformation era.

In addition to the primary discussion sessions, the conference will convene shipbuilding companies, classification societies, design consultancy firms, and suppliers of materials and equipment from both Vietnam and international markets.

Importantly, the exhibition is anticipated to facilitate several significant cooperation agreements and new contracts, with a projected total value of around 60 million USD. This underscores the market's vibrancy and reinforces investor confidence in the substantial growth potential of Vietnam’s shipbuilding industry in the forthcoming era.

A representative from Damen Group (Netherlands) noted that after more than three decades in Vietnam, the company has successfully constructed over 650 ships, including 600 vessels exported to various nations and 50 currently in operation within Vietnam. Damen has further pledged to establish Vietnam as a global shipbuilding center, capable of producing vessels powered by sustainable energy to aid in fostering a cleaner marine environment.
