The workshop attracted nearly 100 delegates from Viet Nam and Japan, including market surveillance officials, representatives of brand-owning enterprises, and experts in the field of intellectual property.

The event aimed to strengthen professional exchanges between Viet Nam’s market surveillance force and Japanese organisations and businesses, while updating participants on emerging methods of intellectual property infringement and promoting cooperation in the detection, identification and handling of infringing goods on the market.

Speaking at the workshop, Tran Huu Linh, Director General of the Agency for Domestic Market Surveillance and Development, noted that enforcement forces need stronger support in terms of product identification tools, centralised databases provided by rights-holding enterprises, and in-depth training programmes on infringement indicators. He stressed that cooperation with international organisations and rights-holding businesses, through activities such as this workshop, would help equip market surveillance forces with the capacity to detect and address intellectual property infringements more effectively.

At the same time, cooperation with JPO, JETRO and IIPPF was described as a practical initiative to support market surveillance forces in identifying new tactics used in intellectual property violations. According to Linh, the market surveillance force will focus on strengthening field skills, updating professional knowledge and expanding international cooperation to improve the effectiveness of inspection and enforcement activities.

Within the framework of the workshop, three Japanese brand-owning enterprises directly shared technical and professional insights related to intellectual property protection activities in the Vietnamese market.

Through the workshop, JPO, JETRO, IIPPF and the Agency for Domestic Market Surveillance and Development agreed to strengthen cooperation in several key areas to enhance the effectiveness of intellectual property rights protection in Viet Nam.

The parties committed to intensifying data and information sharing on product groups at high risk of counterfeiting, expanding practical training programmes for market surveillance forces, and jointly supporting enterprises in both countries to improve awareness of and compliance with intellectual property protection regulations.

In addition, the partners will promote consumer-oriented communication activities to curb the consumption of infringing goods, while maintaining regular coordination mechanisms to ensure close and continuous cooperation in the enforcement of intellectual property rights in the Vietnamese market.
