Winners of Vietnam Music Awards 2023 honoured

A ceremony was held by the Vietnam Musicians’ Association (VMA) in Hanoi on January 31 to grant the 2023 Vietnam Music Awards to 93 outstanding musical works.

The awards ceremony is held annually to honour musicians and artists with outstanding musical creativity in the fields of composition, performance, critical theory, and training.

The 2023 edition of the awards attracted 275 works by 275 VMA’s members from all provinces and cities across the country, including 209 in vocal music, 23 children’s songs, three symphonic works, 14 chamber works, six acapella works, four artistic works, seven performance programmes, and nine theoretical works.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Musician Do Hong Quan, who is also Chairman of the Alliance of Arts and Literature Associations of Vietnam and Chairman of the Art Council of the VMA, said this year’s edition received a large number of works with the elaborate investment and creative composition.

The organising board presented five A prizes, 26 B prizes, 30 C prizes, and 27 consolation prizes to outstanding music works and the five best performance programmes with high quality. The choir "Ap Bac Standing Posture" by Chung Huu Phu (from Ben Tre Province) won a "double" with the A Prize of the VMA in 2023 and also the award from the Alliance of Arts and Literature Associations of Vietnam.

Specifically, in the category of compositions, the organising board presented 3 A prizes, 14 B prizes, 17 C prizes, and 17 consolation prizes.

In the children’s song category, one A prize, three B prizes and four C prizes were granted. Meanwhile, two C prizes and one consolation prize were presented in the category of symphonic works.

In the category of chamber works, there were three B prizes, two C prizes, and four consolation prizes. In addition, four choral works were honoured with one A prize, one B prize, one C prize, and one consolation prize.

For the category of artistic songs, one B prize, one C prize, and two consolation prizes were granted to outstanding works. Five excellent programmes were also honoured at the ceremony.

Two B prizes, one C prize, and one consolation prize were awarded to the most outstanding research books. Meanwhile, the Arts Council presented one B prize and one C prize in the field of compiled and collected books. In addition, one B prize, one C prize, and one consolation prize were presented to outstanding articles.
