The play portrays the beauty of women in the capital during the resistance war against the French.
Following direction from the Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a series of high-quality artistic products bearing the Ha Noi brand, the Ha Noi Cai Luong Theatre has premiered “The Daughter of Ha Noi” at the Hong Ha Theatre (51 Duong Thanh Street, Hoan Kiem Ward, Ha Noi).
“The Daughter of Ha Noi” is a poignant and romantic story celebrating the patriotism, indomitable spirit, and noble sacrifices of the Hanoian people who fought for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland during the resistance war against the French.
Through the central character of Uyen Thanh, a female intelligence operative, the production recreates the tense battle of wits between revolutionary fighters and the enemy’s sophisticated counter-intelligence apparatus. In the brutal circumstances, when life and death are constantly in the balance, the fighters remain steadfast in their faith, loyalty, and revolutionary ideals.
A key highlight of “The Daughter of Ha Noi” is its combination of the values of traditional cai luong with a modern theatrical language. The production features investment in music, visual arts, lighting, movement, and stage direction, creating an emotionally rich and engaging artistic space for contemporary audiences while retaining the distinctive characteristics of cai luong.
The production brings together an experienced creative team, including playwright Nguyen Toan Thang, cai luong adapter Ngoc Thuy, director Meritorious Artist and Doctor Trieu Trung Kien, visual designer People's Artist Doan Bang, music director People's Artist Dao Trung, and choreographer Meritorious Artist Thanh Nam.
The cast includes People's Artist Thanh Huong, Meritorious Artist Hong Nhung, Meritorious Artist Quang Tuan, and artist Nhat Linh, along with other artists, performers, musicians, and dancers from the Ha Noi Cai Luong Theatre.
With substantial investment in content, artistic quality, and creative talent, “The Daughter of Ha Noi” aims to be a high-quality theatrical production that both brings a fresh approach to cai luong and makes historical stories more accessible to today’s audiences, particularly younger generations.
According to a representative of the Ha Noi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the continued launch of works with diverse content, forms of expression, and artistic genres, while sharing a common focus on stories about Ha Noi is part of an effort to gradually develop distinctive artistic products capable of regular performances for local residents and visitors.
In doing so, the programmes will not only enrich the capital’s artistic life but also promote the image, people, and cultural values of Ha Noi, creating additional attractive cultural destinations within the city’s artistic landscape.
