Professor and Doctor Nguyen Xuan Thang, former Politburo member and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, attended and addressed the Congress.
The event was attended by Pham Tat Thang, Party Central Committee member and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Central Committee of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and central-level mass organisations; Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee; and leaders of various central-level Party committees, ministries, sectors, and Ha Noi. The Congress brought together 174 delegates representing nearly 7,000 members of 40 member associations and branches nationwide.
The Congress reviewed the Association’s activities during its seventh term (2015–2026) and outlined orientations and tasks for the 2026–2031 term.
According to the report, after 11 years of operation, the Viet Nam Association of Historical Sciences has 40 member associations and branches with nearly 7,000 members, of whom 5,528 had been issued membership cards as of June 10, 2026.
During its seventh term, the Association continued to strengthen its professional activities, coordinating with research and training institutions to organise numerous conferences and scientific discussions, and participating in research projects on national history, historical figures, local history, and cultural heritage.
Alongside its achievements, the Association also candidly acknowledged a number of difficulties and shortcomings, including the lack of a permanent office and essential facilities, the lack of permanent staffing, and difficulties in external relations due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and limited financial resources.
Entering the 2026–2031 term, the Association will continue to consolidate and strengthen its organisational structure; renew the Executive Committee and strengthen its leadership team; and step up the dissemination of historical knowledge and historical education, particularly among younger generations.
The Association will also focus on consultancy, social criticism, and social appraisal in the fields of history, culture, and heritage conservation, while promoting digital transformation in membership management, developing a historical database, and disseminating historical knowledge.
At the Congress, delegates discussed and offered diverse feedback on the report and orientations for the Association’s activities during the new term.
The Congress elected 58 members to the Eighth Executive Committee of the Viet Nam Association of Historical Sciences. At its first meeting, the Executive Committee elected 15 members to the Standing Committee. Professor and Doctor Nguyen Van Kim was elected Chairman of the Association for the 2026–2031 term.
