With high-quality professional products and diverse, appealing forms of presentation, Nhan Dan Newspaper continued to uphold its leading role and position as the Party’s political and ideological flag on the journalism front.
The results achieved during the past term created momentum and provided leverage for the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper to continue fostering solidarity, innovation, and creativity, thereby realising higher development goals in the coming term.
Renewal efforts
The 2020–2025 term of the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper was marked by rapid, complex, and unpredictable domestic and global developments. The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic worldwide deeply affected all aspects of social life, including journalism and communication. At the same time, the strong rise of social networks, artificial intelligence (AI), and new communication platforms posed major challenges for revolutionary journalism in guiding public opinion and maintaining the people’s trust in the Party.
In this context, the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper has always received direct leadership and guidance from the Politburo, the Secretariat and Party Central Committee (PCC)’s commissions, while upholding a tradition of solidarity and high consensus, strictly adhering to Party principles of operation, ensuring unified leadership and coordinated activities between professional work and Party building. The Executive Board and the Standing Board of the Party Committee consistently provided close direction for Party affairs, constantly improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of grassroots Party organisations—decisive factors in fulfilling the political tasks of the Party newspaper.
Most Executive Board members of the Party Committee at all levels were leaders and managers of departments and above. Secretaries of Party Committees and their branches were unit leaders with capacity, strong political views, good moral qualities, and prestige among staff. They mastered the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws. Most staff and Party members of the Party Committee had university degrees or higher; a high proportion held advanced or intermediate political theory qualifications, with firm political courage and dedication to journalism, and were ready to innovate and create to meet the growing demands of communication work.
The Executive Board and Standing Board of the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper regularly directed Party organisations to renew and improve the study, research, and application of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought in line with new circumstances. Political education and theoretical training for cadres and Party members were emphasised. The Executive Board closely followed the Party Central Committee’s guidance, issued many documents to clarify policies, and fully implemented the Party’s resolutions and directives. At the same time, it strengthened theoretical training, consolidated political steadfastness, upheld the socialist goal and ideal; provided close direction at the grassroots level, absorbing opinions and translating them into appropriate action plans to ensure effective fulfilment of political tasks and Party building work.
Important results
During the past term, the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper and its branches reviewed, supplemented, completed, issued and implemented action programmes to realise the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress and the resolution of the immediate higher-level Party Committee; developing working regulations, term-based and annual work programmes, and inspection and supervision programmes; assigning specific tasks to Party Committee excecutives board members; and inspecting and supervising their implementation. The newspaper regularly consolidated and nurtured executive board members who were capable, virtuous and fulfilled their duties well. The Party Committee always paid attention to strengthening the leadership of executive boards and Party organisations in the newspaper.
Strict implementation of the principles of Party organisation and activities was ensured; the quality of Party Committee meetings gradually improved; management and development of Party members, and internal political protection were carried out effectively. Inspection, supervision and Party discipline were implemented comprehensively and synchronously. The leadership methods and working style of the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper and its executive boards at various levels were renewed, such as developing programmes and plans to implement Central resolutions, directives and plans suitable to the functions, tasks and conditions of the Party Committee; improving the quality of studying and grasping the Party’s guidelines and policies by expanding participation and diversifying forms; broadening supervision, focusing inspections on key areas; paying attention to administrative reform, information technology application and digital transformation in the Party Committee and the newspaper.
Regarding the review of the implementation of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW of the 12th Party Central Committee, immediately after the Politburo issued Decision No. 218-QD/TW regulating the functions, tasks and organisational structure of Nhan Dan Newspaper, the leadership and Party Committee promptly carried out restructuring and consolidation of the apparatus. On this basis, the Party Committee merged, renamed or dissolved subordinate Party organisations, reducing the number of Party organisations from 29 to 19. So far, the apparatus of the agency and its units continued to be streamlined, contributing to ensuring the performance of political tasks of the agency.
The newspaper vigorously renewed the content and form of its products. Publications such as Nhan Dan Daily, Nhan Dan Weekend, Nhan Dan Monthly and Thoi Nay were constantly improved in content and presentation, meeting the demand for in-depth and analytical reading. Nhan Dan Online developed significantly in content, form and technology: strongly exploiting modern journalism forms such as e-magazines, long-forms, infographics, journalism videos and data journalism; actively distributing news on major social platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Zalo and TikTok, attracting millions of accesses and shares.
The newspaper proactively implemented digital transformation in production processes, such as applying CMS systems for print and online editions, effectively connecting departments, shortening production time for news and articles, and accelerating multimedia publication. Artificial intelligence (AI) and Big Data were effectively applied and optimised. Training in multimedia journalism skills for staff, reporters and editors was prioritised, enhancing their capacity to perform political tasks.
The newspaper was always a vanguard force on the ideological and cultural front, effectively implementing the role of disseminating the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws to cadres, Party members and the people; promptly identifying, communicating, encouraging and promoting new factors, outstanding people, and good people and good deeds; and educating patriotic and revolutionary traditions.
Nhan Dan Newspaper delivered timely, accurate, comprehensive, and in-depth information on major political and social events, including the 13th National Party Congress, 13th Party Central Committee meetings; elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels; National Assembly sessions and meetings of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly; annual celebrations of major national holidays and important historical events; activities of Party and State leaders; current affairs in health, education, science, culture, tourism and sports; natural disasters and epidemics, especially Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control and recovery of socio-economic development after the pandemic; promotion of science and technology application in life; the fight against corruption, negativity and waste; strengthening of national defence and security; as well as international communication and external information in line with the Party’s and State’s orientations, closely following hotspots around the world.
The newspaper intensified communication to protect the Party’s ideological foundation and refute hostile and distorted arguments against the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws.
At the same time, from practical issues arising in life, the newspaper opened many columns and articles summarising practices, contributing to building, supplementing, amending and perfecting the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, bringing Party resolutions into reality. It also fulfilled its role as a forum for people from all walks of life to reflect their thoughts, aspirations, opinions and practical initiatives, thereby contributing to creating consensus and orienting public opinion effectively.
Under the strong and active leadership of the leaders and Party Committee, during the past term, staff, Party members, reporters and editors of Nhan Dan Newspaper promoted their dedication and creativity, producing many high-quality press works, contributing to enhancing the quality of publications. Many press works won top prizes at major journalism awards organised by central bodies and ministries.
Notably, in 2024, during the information campaign marking the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory, Nhan Dan Newspaper was awarded the Gold Prize in the Best in Newspaper Marketing category by the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), and its Panorama Project of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign won the “Product for Young Reader” category at the World Printers Summit on November 9, 2024 in Vienna, Austria. The Nhan Dan Newspaper’s supplement commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification also attracted readers nationwide and had a strong social effect.
Events organised by Nhan Dan Newspaper over the past period, such as the annual Community Action Award; concerts with the participation of famous international artists such as “Kenny G Live in Viet Nam” and “Bond Live in Viet Nam”; the political–artistic programme “Fatherland in Our Hearts”; and the programme “Marching Forward with Viet Nam” to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), along with many other programmes, attracted particular attention from the community, especially young people. These created a positive effect, strongly spreading patriotism and a healthy lifestyle. This helped attract an increasing number of readers interested in learning about the Party newspaper.
Development orientation
At the 29th Congress for the 2025–2030 term, the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper defined the goal of continuing to uphold the 74-year tradition of the Party newspaper in construction and development, promoting a spirit of responsibility, solidarity and innovation to fulfil assigned political tasks. It strives to build Nhan Dan Newspaper into a model press agency: humane, modern, multimedia and multi-platform; maintaining its role as a leading press agency in communicating the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, and as the reliable voice of the Party, the State and the people.
Accordingly, the newspaper identified key tasks: continuing to strengthen Party building work in politics, ideology, and ethics; resolutely preventing ideological, ethical, and lifestyle degeneration. It focused on Party building in organisation and personnel; enhancing the leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party committees; build clean and strong Party organisations, agencies, and units. It also resolutely and in a coordinated way implemented streamlining, restructuring, and completion of the organization, apparatus, and personnel with morality, capacity, and prestige to meet assigned tasks; improving the quality of activities of Party Committees and Party members; and strengthening Party member management and internal political protection.
It aimed to intensify communication on Party building work, socio-economic development, national defence and security, foreign affairs, and the fight against false arguments of hostile forces, while protecting the Pary’s ideological foundation and promoting anti-corrutpion, thrift, and negativity. It also sought to constantly improve the quality of content and form of the newspaper’s products, focusing on the thematic publications, and expanding editorials, commentaries, investigative reports, and policy analyses in print editions. Nhan Dan Online aimed to affirm its role as a channel providing accurate, in-depth information with attractive form and multimedia. It further sought to apply digital technologies and Big Data, accelratepress digital transformation, and develop content on multimedia platforms, moving towards a modern converged editorial office.
On this basis, the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper focused on implementing “three breakthroughs” in the 2025–2030 term.
Firstly, it renewed journalistic thinking, improved the quality of content and forms o fcommunication of the Pary’s guidelines and the State’s policies and laws, and shifted from journalism of transmission to journalism that guides, orients, persuades, and creates sustainable social influence.
Secondly, it made breakthroughs in personnel work; build personnel, especially heads of Party committees and units, who were exemplary, with sufficient virtue, capacity, and prestige to meet their tasts in the nation’s rising era; and built a team of cadres, perorters, and editors capable of meeting political tasks in the new periord.
Thirdly, it made breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, in line with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo; gradually digitized data, cut administrative procedures, and applied artificial intelligence in professional and Party work with urgency, determination, and effectiveness.
With a proud tradition and a determined spirit of innovation and creativity, the Party Committee of Nhan Dan Newspaper was determined to unite, agree, and successfully implement the set tasks, achieve outstanding results in the coming term, and be worthy of the trust of the Party and the people. It sought to gain many achievements to celebrate the 14th National Party Congress and move towards the milestone of the 75th anniversary of the first issue of Nhan Dan Newspaper (March 11, 1951 –March 11, 2026).
