Speaking at the event, Bui Quang Huy, First Secretary of the HCYU’s Central Committee, said the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign has become one of the most prominent youth movements nationwide, providing a platform for young people to grow and directly contribute to tackling pressing social issues.

The selection of the border commune of Ba Chuc in An Giang Province as this year’s launch site underscores the commitment of Vietnamese youth to serving in remote and underserved areas, particularly along the country’s borders.

Addressing the ceremony, Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Politburo member and Head of the Central Commission for Policies and Strategies, stressed that young people must serve as pioneers in digital transformation and innovation, helping build a digital society, digital economy, and digital citizenship.

He said the blue volunteer shirt can be seen everywhere, from remote, mountainous, border, and island areas to urban centres; and across activities ranging from building new rural areas, protecting the environment, and ensuring social welfare to driving digital transformation and supporting start-ups.

He praised the Youth Union for refreshing the campaign’s content this year, particularly with activities focused on border and disadvantaged areas.

Nghi said young people must take the lead in embracing and applying new technologies and scientific advances. They should also actively support their communities in digital transformation and promote digital literacy among the wider public.

On child welfare, he stressed the need to pay greater attention to children in remote, border and island areas, as well as those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

At the ceremony, the organising committee awarded scholarships to ethnic minority students from disadvantaged backgrounds who had achieved strong academic results, while also donating gifts to underprivileged households in the province.
