to offer suggestions and transform the APEC 2027 diplomatic milestone into a launching pad for Phu Quoc’s take-off.
In his opening remarks, Truong Thanh Trung, Editor-in-Chief of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, emphasised that Phu Quoc hosting important activities of the APEC 2027 High-Level Week is a strategic opportunity to enhance its position in the Asia-Pacific region.
“APEC 2027 is both an opportunity and a test of the local capacity for development, governance, and social consensus building. The priority is to transform the mobilised resources into long-term development momentum after the event,” Trung affirmed.
Sharing the same view, Ngo Cong Thuc, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of An Giang Province, assessed that this is a large-scale APEC 2027 conference held on the pearl island.
Thuc added that the province will continue to improve infrastructure, enhance the investment environment, and focus on preserving marine and island ecosystems and traditional cultural values to develop green and sustainable tourism.
At the discussion session, Nguyen Thi Kim Loan, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, stated that the locality is focusing on implementing key projects simultaneously, from transportation, airports, and digital infrastructure to an international convention centre. Phu Quoc expects to effectively implement specific mechanisms and policies to optimise its geostrategic position and attract high-quality investment.
From a media perspective, Dr. Nguyen Dang Khang, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Dai Doan Ket Newspaper, suggested a new direction: Media needs to shift from “destination promotion” to “building a social image”, based on cultural identity, green development, and people-to-people diplomacy. The success of APEC 2027 must be measured by positive experiences and the trust of international friends.
Offering suggestions from a business perspective, Nguyen Thu Phuong, Director of the Vinpearl hotel chain (Vingroup), believed that APEC 2027 is a golden opportunity to form internationally standardised all-in-one integrated tourism complexes. Vingroup is committed to continuing to invest in large-scale ecosystems and enhancing MICE tourism capacity to extend the length of stay and spending of high-end tourists.
From a resource exploitation perspective, Nguyen Vu Khac Huy, Chairman of the An Giang Tourism Association, proposed positioning the unique marine and island culture as a strategic resource. He emphasised the model: using culture as the foundation, the people as the main actors, and tourism as the means to build a civilised Phu Quoc with a strong identity and sufficient international competitiveness after APEC 2027.
