The conference is part of an annual, interdisciplinary series of international academic forums focusing on Viet Nam-related topics, including social sciences, humanities, arts, creative industries, communications, digital transformation, sustainable development, and cultural heritage.

The event is the result of a long-standing collaborative journey between the School of Interdisciplinary Sciences and Arts under Viet Nam National University, Ha Noi, and the Engaging with Viet Nam network.

Addressing the conference, Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated: “For cultural industries to truly make a breakthrough, we need an interdisciplinary knowledge ecosystem that closely integrates culture, arts, technology, economics, and communications. This requires open and innovative education programmes that equip the new workforce with digital and AI capabilities. At the same time, it is essential to strengthen public–private partnerships and international cooperation in order to learn from advanced technologies and management experience as well as expand markets.”

The Engaging with Viet Nam Conference aims to foster in-depth, open, and highly critical academic dialogue around issues of knowledge, education, culture, technology, creativity, and development within the context of Vietnam’s engagement with the world.

In parallel, it seeks to open new approaches to the creation and sharing of knowledge about Viet Nam, spanning both traditional fields such as the social sciences and humanities, and interdisciplinary areas including arts, creative industries, education, communications, digital transformation, and sustainable development.

In addition, the conference places strong emphasis on strengthening connections and cooperation between domestic and international academic communities, thereby helping to build a deep, sustainable, and intergenerational research and creative network.

The conference has attracted the participation of numerous scholars from Viet Nam and abroad.

This year’s edition received contributions from experts through nearly 200 papers by 280 scholar and discussed across more than 50 plenary and parallel sessions.

In addition to its role as an academic forum, the event also serves as a space for connection. Alongside discussion sessions, the organising team made efforts to incorporate a diverse range of activities, including artistic performances, interactions with artists, roundtable discussions, and various practical side events aimed at engaging the wider community and society.
