The China–ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) has made significant contributions to promoting economic and trade cooperation between China and ASEAN, particularly in the development of the ASEAN–China Free Trade Area.

It has also created opportunities for Vietnamese enterprises to showcase their products and seek investment and cooperation prospects in China and the wider region.

Taking place from 17 to 21 September, the 22nd CAEXPO has attracted more than 3,200 enterprises from 60 countries, with a total exhibition space of over 160,000 square metres. Of this, international pavilions account for more than 30 per cent, presenting the latest outcomes of cooperation between ASEAN countries and China.

Notably, for the first time, CAEXPO has dedicated an exhibition zone to artificial intelligence (AI), new quality productive forces, and the green economy.

Over the years, Viet Nam has consistently attached importance to CAEXPO, sending high-level delegations and participating with the largest scale among ASEAN countries.

At this year’s expo, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh is leading a senior Vietnamese Government delegation. He will join leaders from China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and the ASEAN Secretary-General at the opening ceremony to discuss policy orientations for cooperation and shared development.

In addition, Viet Nam has a dedicated pavilion covering around 3,900 square metres, featuring high-quality products from 100 businesses.

In recent years, trade between ASEAN and China has maintained robust growth. China has been ASEAN’s largest trading partner for 16 consecutive years, while ASEAN has been China’s largest trading partner for five years. In 2024, bilateral trade between China and five ASEAN members – Viet Nam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore – each exceeded 100 billion USD. Of these, trade with Viet Nam and Malaysia surpassed 200 billion USD.

From January to July 2025, ASEAN–China trade reached 597 billion USD, an increase of 8.2 per cent year on year, accounting for 16.7 per cent of China’s total trade during the same period.

On investment cooperation, by the end of July 2025, two-way investment between ASEAN and China had exceeded 450 billion USD. Both sides have actively expanded collaboration in digital economy, e-commerce and green development. In particular, supply and industrial chain cooperation between ASEAN and China has become increasingly close. Enhanced sectoral linkages have contributed to fostering the region’s prosperous socio-economic development.
