Dong Son cultural collection displayed

A special exhibition called “Dong Son Echoes from the Past” opened at the Vietnam National Museum of History, on November 22, as part of activities to mark Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23) and the 100th anniversary of the discovery and research of Dong Son culture.

The exhibition introduces an extremely rich, diverse, and highly aesthetic collection of Dong Son cultural artefacts, including working tools, daily utensils, weapons, musical instruments and jewellery. The artefacts are made from many materials, such as copper, iron, ceramic, glass, wood and stone, with extremely sophisticated techniques, reflecting the labour and production life, as well as the concepts of the world and humanity of the ancient Vietnamese residents.

The exhibition content includes three parts: New collections about Dong Son culture, Dong Son drum moulds discovered from Luy Lau underground and Bronze drum casting experiments.

In particular, the National Museum of History also publicly introduced the first and only experimentally cast drum based on science.

At the opening ceremony, the National Museum of History received 51 Dong Son cultural artefacts from researcher and Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Nam to supplement the Museum's collection.

The exhibition will take place until the end of April 2024.
