Speaking at the forum, Le Minh Linh, Deputy Director of the National Agricultural Extension Centre, emphasised that in recent years, the livestock industry has always played an important role in economic development and ensuring food security of the country.
Currently, the livestock industry accounts for a large proportion (over 25%) in the structure of the agricultural sector and is an important livelihood for more than 10 million rural households, with the export turnover of livestock products in 2024 reaching 533.6 million USD, an increase of 6.5% compared to 2023.
However, the export of Viet Nam’s livestock products to other countries is not as expected, basically still raised in traditional, fragmented, small-scale forms, not ensuring disease safety. The is not much vaccination of livestock and poultry at households due to the “thin” grassroots veterinary force.
At the forum, delegates focused on exchanging and discussing to clarify a number of issues such as: effective disease prevention measures in livestock farming; solutions to build disease-safe livestock farming facilities and areas; and challenges and opportunities in developing disease-safe livestock farming to serve domestic food needs and towards export.
During the forum, delegates visited the animal disease safety certification model at Kim Dung Cooperative, Cao Loc District, and the Agricultural and Trade Company Limited, Mai Pha Commune, Lang Son City.
