Abundant supply
In these last days of the year, the supermarket system of the Saigon Union of Trading Cooperatives (Saigon Co.op) is full of goods on the shelves with a variety of types.
"This year, purchasing power is forecast to increase due to the economic recovery after the pandemic. I am also somewhat assured when following information in the press that the city has proactively prepared abundant goods. The supermarket systems are always full of goods," said Lai Thi Huong Lan, who is shopping at Co.opmart Van Thanh supermarket (Binh Thanh District).
Saigon Co.op Deputy General Director Nguyen Ngoc Thang said that Saigon Co.op will prepare about 10 trillion VND of Tet goods, an increase of 20-50% depending on the product group compared to normal business months.
Most of the budget is prioritised for stockpiling market-stabilizing product groups, including rice, sugar, cooking oil, pork, poultry, eggs, processed foods, vegetables, and seafood. The rest is for food, non-food products and Tet specialities. Near Tet, Co.opmart supermarkets will have more mobile shipments to remote areas and areas affected by storms and floods.
According to General Director of Saigon Trading Group - One Member Co., Ltd. (SATRA) Lam Quoc Thanh, since mid-2024, the corporation's retail system has been directed to deploy to all member units and distribution centres to prepare goods for the New Year and Lunar New Year 2025.
The SATRA retail system has increased its stockpiling of goods, focusing on essential food, foodstuffs, and market stabilisation goods to ensure reasonable prices and quality goods.
Meanwhile, Vietnam Livestock Corporation (Vissan) plans to increase its Tet goods volume by 8% compared to last year, with a total value of VND550 billion. Vissan's Tet goods are ready, with the main products being fresh and processed meat. To stimulate demand, Vissan will maintain promotional activities in a rolling manner, in which processed food products will be reduced in price by up to 30%.
In Binh Duong Province, at this time, retail units are proactively preparing goods for Tet. In particular, the Director of Go Binh Duong Vo Nhat Vu said that Go has carefully prepared to meet the demand for goods in the last months of the year.
Go also launched many attractive year-end incentive programs to stimulate shopping, meeting the diverse needs of customers. Particularly for food items such as pork, chicken, and vegetables, the system has actively negotiated and worked with suppliers in advance to purchase large quantities and ensure stable input prices.
Essential goods are guaranteed to be priced 5-10% lower than market prices at each time. Goods must ensure quantity and quality to mobilise and respond. Enterprises ensure to reserve and supply goods in sufficient quantity, quality, and food hygiene and safety under the coordination of competent authorities.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Binh Duong Province, according to the plan to stabilise the market of essential goods in 2025 and the Lunar New Year 2025, the market stabilisation programme in the province has 17 key enterprises participating with a total value of goods reserved for more than 13,725 billion VND (excluding gasoline and medicine).
The period before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2025 is about 2,750 billion VND. Most enterprises participating in the program are large-scale, reputable brands, occupy a high market share and are the focal points of supply chains.
Specifically, distribution activities include leading retail enterprises nationwide, such as Saigon Co.op, Bach Hoa Xanh, Central Retail, MM Mega Market, and AEON. Thereby, consumers have more opportunities to access and purchase stabilised goods. Regarding the list of market stabilisation products, compared to 2024, the program has expanded and added many product groups.
The Department of Industry and Trade of Binh Duong Province noted that before, during and after Tet, supermarkets and CP Vietnam Livestock Joint Stock Company, Binh Duong branch, and Vietnam Livestock Industry Company Limited (Vissan) participating in the market stabilisation of livestock and poultry meat in the province are committed to ensuring quantity and selling at the registered stabilisation price, 5-10% lower than the market price.

Tightly control prices and goods sources
To prepare goods for the 2025 Lunar New Year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade and leading enterprises in the retail and food sectors have urgently implemented plans to stabilise prices, stimulate demand, and ensure an abundant supply of goods at reasonable prices.
In particular, this year's price stabilisation programme has more businesses participating than last year. Businesses also added salt and drinking water to the group of essential food items.
According to the city's Department of Industry and Trade, it is expected that this year, businesses will prepare about 23 trillion VND to serve 2 months of the 2025 Lunar New Year, of which about 9,000 billion VND will be used to prepare goods for market stabilisation.
The list of stabilised goods has been expanded with many additional items. Businesses participating in the program are supported with rental prices for business and retail premises, support for goods transportation services, and support for brand building.
On the part of the state management agency, the Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, Bui Ta Hoang Vu, said that from now until Tet, the Department will proactively develop plans and propose solutions to functional agencies to ensure supply-demand balance, stabilise the market, and prevent the risk of shortages or supply disruptions causing price fluctuations.
At the same time, the Department will closely coordinate with the distribution system in the area, encouraging units to apply preferential discount rates.
According to the Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Binh Duong Province Phan Thi Khanh Duyen, the Department calls on businesses to coordinate with localities and sectors to organise price-stabilisation points.
According to the plan, goods in circulation must have origin, ensure food safety, meet quality standards, and have appropriate prices; have abundant and stable supply, ensuring supply-demand balance and meeting the consumption needs of the people in the province even in the event of market fluctuations.
