According to the organisers, the event will gather many artists, singers and instrumentalists from Hai Phong, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Bac Ninh, Ha Tinh, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh and Thanh Hoa.

The ca tru singing festival provides an opportunity for artists to exchange and share experience in practising this unique vocal art form, said Tran Thi Hoang Mai, Director of the Hai Phong Department of Culture and Sports.

It will also help to preserve the value of ca tru singing in the port city and the whole country in general.

As a form of traditional art that has been present in Vietnam for a long time, ca tru holds a special place in the rich history of Vietnamese music and is closely associated with many aspects of Vietnamese life.

Ca tru singing was inscribed on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent safeguarding in 2009. Since then, the art has enjoyed a strong revival in many parts of the country.
