The pre-feasibility study report of the project, which has just been submitted to the Prime Minister, shows that the38km metro line will connect Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac.
The metro line will include 21 stations including six underground stations, 14 above-ground stations and one elevated station. There will be two depots along the route located in Son Dong commune, Hoai Duc district with an area of 18ha and in Yen Binh commune, Thach That district with an area of 7ha.
The city proposes the Prime Minister establish a State appraisal council to appraise the pre-feasibility study report to submit the project thereafter to the National Assembly at an upcoming meeting in late 2020.
The city also suggested the use of the local budget toimplement the project in the form of PDP model.
According to the Hanoi People’s Committee study, metro line No.5 will include 6.5km underground, 2km overhead and 29.93km on the ground. The project will run through Ba Binh, Dong Da, Cau Giay, Nam Tu Liem, Hoai Duc, Quoc Oai and Thach That districts.
If the project is approved, it will be commenced in 2022 and put into operation in 2026.
Hanoi plans to build eight urban metro lines with a total length of 305km in a bid to reduce traffic jams.
