Nearly VND 30 billion (US$1.4 million) has been invested in the renovation project, of which VND 10 billion has been contributed by the Ngo family’s descendants.

The money will be used to upgrade main items in the two monuments to their original state, and to beautify the surrounding landscape.

The upgrade is expected to be completed within three years.

Located in a hill on Cam Lam hamlet, the tomb and temple were built in 1874 to commemorate Ngo Quyen (897 - 944), a great national commander who led the Vietnamese people to victory over Southern Han invaders on Bach Dang river in 938. Following the glorious Bach Dang victory, which put an end to over 1,000 years of Chinese domination, Ngo Quyen declared himself King in 939, inaugurating the autonomous and independent period in Vietnam’s history.
