The event is jointly held by the Vietnam National University in HCMC (VNU-HCM) and the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan (IEEJ), drawing over 250 experts in the area from Japan, the US, Switzerland and the Republic of Korea.
4S-2014/AVIC14, one of the major semiconductor conferences in 2014, is a two-part combination: the third Solid State Systems Symposium (4S-2014) and the 17th International Conference on Analog VLSI Circuits (AVIC14).
The event is organised every two years as a forum for scientists, engineers and students to exchange information and share experience in VLSI and semiconductor technologies.
More than 40 scientific reports have been sent to the conference, where delegates will discuss two major topics: the direction for integrated circuit (IC) industry in Vietnam and IC design research and education.
Speaking at the opening session, VNU-HCM President Phan Thanh Binh said that the IC industry is the core of the electronics industry with annual growth of over 10%.
He added that recently the Vietnamese Government and HCMC authorities have introduced many incentive policies to attract investment to this nascent industry.
Binh said the VNU-HCM was aware of the importance of this industry and had been trying to create many breakthroughs in IC research and development.
The conference will last until October 24.
