The festival will open with solemn commemorative events, including a ceremony to mark the occasion, incense offerings at the City Cemetery, and wreath-laying ceremonies at the mausoleums of President Ho Chi Minh and President Ton Duc Thang.
Alongside the official commemorations, a diverse programme of cultural, artistic and sporting events will take place. These include a race, a series of public art performances, and shows across wards and communes from April 26 to May 1. A citywide artistic street lighting display will also create a festive atmosphere throughout the holiday period.
The Department of Culture and Sports will stage exhibitions of historical images and documents at Nguyen Van Binh Book Street, showcasing the 51-year journey since the Liberation of the South and 140 years of the International Labour Movement.
A highlight of the celebrations will be a fireworks display from 21:00 to 21:15 on April 30, at seven locations across the city. These include the Saigon River Tunnel (An Khanh Ward), the new central city area (Binh Duong Ward), Ba Ria Park and Square (Ba Ria Ward), Dam Sen Cultural Park (Binh Thoi Ward), the Saigon Marina IFC Tower (Saigon Ward), the Kim Long villa area (Nha Be Commune), and the Can Gio urban area – Vinhomes Green Paradise (Can Gio Commune).
In addition, the city will host a gathering with senior officers of the People’s Army of Viet Nam and the People’s Public Security, together with historical witnesses who took part in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign. The event will pay tribute to and honour those who directly contributed to the Great Spring Victory of 1975.
