The information was announced at a meeting to review the implementation of the programme over the past five months.

The housing support programme was jointly conducted by the Ministry of Public Security, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee (VFFCC) and the State Bank of Vietnam.

Five months after the launch of the programme, VND54 billion has been mobilised to build and repair houses for nearly 1,200 needy households in Muong Nhe district, one of the poorest localities in the country.

Of the total, 979 households were provided with new houses while 170 households had their houses repaired.

Addressing the event, President of the VFFCC Tran Thanh Man said that the programme is a meaningful and practical activity which should be duplicated in other disadvantaged localities across the country.

General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, emphasised that the programme is expected to help the poor in Muong Nhe district to settle down and restrict free migration, contributing to protecting the national sovereignty of the Northwest region and spreading Vietnam’s tradition of compassion.
