Accordingly, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defence, Head of the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Overcoming the Consequences of Post-War Bombs, Mines and Toxic Chemicals in Vietnam, and Ito Naoki, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, signed and exchanged notes on the "Providing Mine Clearance Equipment" project.
This 500-million-yen project is part of the Japanese Government’s “Socio-Economic Development Plan” grant aid programme, which aims to support VNMAC’s mine clearance activities.
Although Vietnam has achieved impressive economic achievements, the damage caused by landmines, unexploded ordnance, and Agent Orange dioxin left over from the war remains serious, threatening the safety of people, hindering social development, and hindering safe land use.
Under the project, the equipment such as tree cutters and mine clearance equipment using advanced technology from Japanese companies will be provided to the VNMAC.
This equipment will support mine clearance and unexploded ordnance clearance activities carried out in cooperation with the People’s Committees of provinces, including Quang Nam Province.
This cooperation also aims to promote the clearance of unexploded ordnance and reduce obstacles to development. It is also expected to contribute to economic and social development through social stability.
Through this project, by providing equipment related to unexploded ordnance clearance using advanced Japanese technology, Ambassador Ito Naoki expressed his hope that unexploded ordnance clearance activities in contaminated areas such as Quang Nam Province will be promoted, thus helping to create a safe environment for people to live in peace.
