Japanese festival to celebrate New Year 2015 in Hanoi

A Japanese festival ‘Ake Ome! 2015’ will be held at the Vietnam Exhibition and Fair Centre, 148 Giang Vo Street, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, in December 27-28 to celebrate the New Year 2015, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The festival will feature a series of booths, featuring fine art and craft products and traditional foods of Vietnam and Japan.

Many traditional ornaments of Japanese people on the occasion of the New Year, including Kadomatsu made of pine and bamboo, representing longevity and health; and Koinobori – carp shaped lantern, a symbol of bravery, steadfastness and ambition, also will be introduced at the event.

Additionally, visitors can participate in some cultural activities to welcome the New Year in Japan such as omikuji (drawing lots in New Year), trying Yukata costume (summer kimono) of Japan and painting eye for Daruma traditional dolls to pray for luck.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to wallow in Yosakoi Japanese traditional dance or participate in colorful fashion and cosplay shows.

Ake Ome! 2015 takes its name from ‘akemashite omedetou meaning ‘Happy New Year' in Japanese. The festival aims to create a playground for young people on the occasion of the New Year 2015 and enhance friendship between the Vietnam and Japan.
