More 1,000 Japanese cherry blossom trees planted at Hanoi’s Hoa Binh Park

The People’s Committee of Hanoi in coordination with Japanese AEON group have planted 1,000 additional cherry blossom trees at the Hoa Binh Park in Hanoi, raising the total number of trees to 1,700.

Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung and Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Kunio Umeda attended the event.

According to AEON group, 250 volunteers from AEON and its partners have planted 800 cherry blossom trees in the park this year. In addition, 100 volunteers from Mizuho bank based in Hanoi contributed 200 trees to the park in 2019, increasing the total number of cherry blossom trees planted at the Hoa Binh Park to 1,000 in 2019.

Addressing the tree planting ceremony, Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung thanked the Japanese Ambassador, AEON group and volunteers for their participation in the tree planting event, contributing to turning Hoa Binh Park into a symbol of Vietnam – Japan friendship and a site for cherry blossoms in Vietnam.

Executive Director of the AEON Environmental Foundation Naoki Hayashi said that AEON group attaches great importance to tree planting and protection. The group has planted 75,000 trees in Thua Thien-Hue province since 2010, 15,000 trees at the Ba Vi National Park since 2014, and 1,700 cherry blossom trees at the Hoa Binh Park in Hanoi.

He noted that it is an honour for the group to join hands to preserve a beautiful Vietnam as well as contributing to boosting the good relationship between Japan and Vietnam.

Cherry blossom tree planting at the Hoa Binh Park was first launched in 2017.
