Nhan Dan Newspaper wins first place at National Press Awards on culture, sports and tourism

A ceremony was held at the Hanoi Opera House to present prizes under the second National Press Awards “For the Cause of Cultural, Sports and Tourism Development.” Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, the Vietnam News Agency, and Van hoa (Culture) Newspaper won collective awards for media agencies with numerous high-quality submissions.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long; Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung; Le Quoc Minh, Editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper and Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee (PCC)’s Commission for Communications and Education; and Pham Tat Thang, Standing Deputy Head of the PCC’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation.

Nhan Dan Newspaper won a collective prize, a first prize in the online newspaper category, a second prize in the print newspaper category, a second prize in the photojournalism category, a third prize in the television category, and two consolation prizes in the photojournalism category.

Five first prizes were awarded to An ninh Thu do (The Capital’s Security) Newspaper for the print newspaper category; Nhan Dan Newspaper for the online newspapercategory; VOV6 Department under the Voice of Vietnam for the radio category; Vietnam Television for the television category; and the People’s Army Newspaper.

In addition to the five first prizes and three collective prizes, the organisers presented 15 second prizes, 24 third prizes, and 50 consolation prizes to individual authors and groups.

The second “National Press Awards For the Cause of Cultural, Sports, and Tourism Development" was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to recognise and honour the outstanding contributions of media professionals to the development of culture, sports, and tourism.

The organisers of the awards selected and honoured authors or groups of authors with outstanding journalistic works on culture, family, sports, and tourism, which were published or broadcast by central and local media within the stipulated time frame. Awards were also given to prominent media agencies with multiple winning entries.

By the submission deadline (June 20, 2024, based on postmark), a total of 920 entries were sent to the organising committee. This is a large number, reflecting the enthusiasm and special attention of journalists and the public to the fields of culture, family, sports, and tourism.

The preliminary council selected 119 of the most outstanding works to present to the final round.

According to the Preliminary Council's assessment, the entries were not only high in number and diversity of topics but were also of high professional quality, attracting participation from various large and small media agencies at both central and local levels. The works closely followed major themes, vividly reflecting the important events of 2023-2024 in culture, sports, tourism, and family.

The Final Councial selected 94 of the best works to be awarded across five journalism categories.

At the awards ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy also formally launched the third“National Press Awards For the Cause of Cultural, Sports, and Tourism Development".
