Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre celebrates 55th anniversary

Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre held a ceremony in Hanoi on December 25 to celebrate its 55th anniversary (1969-2024) and receive the third-class labour medal, with the participation of representatives of relevant departments, ministries, and branches, along with many generations of puppetry artists of the theatre.

Speaking at the ceremony, Meritorious Artist Thanh Hien, Director of Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre, said that the theatre has not only become an increasingly attractive destination for domestic and international tourists, but also contributed to promoting and making a deep impression on the unique traditional art of Vietnamese water puppetry to audiences in more than 40 countries around the world.

Up to now, the theatre has performed continuously, 365 days a year, becoming the leading brand in Vietnamese water puppetry.

According to Do Dinh Hong, Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre is one of the most successful traditional art units in Hanoi, leaving a deep impression on audiences while contributing to promoting traditional water puppetry in particular and the image of the country and people of Vietnam in general.

The Director of Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports suggested that in the coming time, cadres, civil servants, and employees of Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre and the city's culture and sports sector need to work together to continue the tradition and successfully carry out the 2025 political tasks of the City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee in general.

The Theatre also needs to continue to promote its role as the flagship of the capital's traditional arts, constantly innovate, build unique and rich puppetry art programmes imbued with the cultural identity of Thang Long - Hanoi, and at the same time adapt to contemporary art trends, contributing to the development of the cultural industry market and promoting the socio-economic development of the capital.

In addition, the Theatre also needs to continue to organise well the important activities of the capital and the country in 2025, contributing to spreading cultural values, national identity, promoting the image of Vietnam in the international arena, and encouraging solidarity from the Vietnamese community abroad.

On this occasion, Thang Long Water Puppetry Theatre was honoured the third-class labour medal by the Party and State for the theatre's positive contributions to the cause of building and developing an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.
