Opera “Cavalleria Rusticana” comes to Vietnamese audiences

For the first time, the Italian classic opera "Cavalleria Rusticana" will come to Hanoi audiences within the framework of a series of activities to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Italy.

The programme, organised by the Saigon Philharmonic Orchestra (SPO) in conjunction with the Vietnam National Opera and Ballet (VNOB) and the Italian Embassy in Vietnam, will bring the full musical experience of international stages to the Hanoi Opera House for two nights, April 15 and 16.

These information was announced by the Italian Embassy at a press conference on April 6.

The male lead played by Giovanni Maria Palmia, a tenor vocalist, has just arrived in Hanoi to attend the press conference. He has conquered prestigious opera competitions such as Concorso Lirico Internazionale Crescendi. He will perfectly perform songs with strict standards from opera’s country of origin.

He shared that this performance was his interesting experience because he would perform in a new country like Vietnam. He hopes that the Vietnamese public will warmly receive the Italian traditional art of Opera.

At the meeting, Italian Ambassador to Vietnam Antonio Alessandro shared that the performance of the Italian classic Opera in Hanoi is an opportunity to introduce the unique beauties of Italian culture to the Hanoi public.

“Cavalleria Rusticana”, a small village on the island of Sicily, represents a classical opera about love, betrayal, and revenge.

The inner struggles of ordinary people caught up in a whirlpool of passion and jealousy are shown through the relationship between the characters Turiddu, Lola, Alfio, and Santuzza.

Artist Fan Ting, who has more than 40 years of experience working as a concert master and violin conductor in Hong Kong (China), will once again return to take on the role of conductor and orchestra with influential artists from both at home and abroad.

Cindy Leung, who has been involved in directing high-class operas for decades, will join the show in the role of general director.
