At the passenger terminal, the heart of the project’s first phase, contractors mobilised over 5,300 personnel to install terminal equipment following the basic completion of construction work.
Inside the terminal, the baggage handling system has largely been installed, while the baggage screening systems have been transported to the site and are ready for installation. Escalators and elevators are also being installed.
Progress is being stepped up on other key components, including the aircraft refuelling system and the second runway.
Long Thanh Airport is being built on an area spanning 5,000 hectares in Long Thanh Commune, Dong Nai Province, with a total investment of 16 billion USD across three phases.
The first phase, costing 5.4 billion USD, will have a capacity of 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tonnes of cargo per year.
Once fully completed, Long Thanh Airport will have a total capacity of 100 million passengers, making it Viet Nam’s largest airport.
On December 19 last year, Long Thanh welcomed its first three flights. It is scheduled to be put into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.
