The event was attended by Politburo member Nguyen Trong Nghia, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, and head of the committee’s Commission for Communication and Education.
At the ceremony, hero of the People's Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Ho Dac Thanh, former captain of Ship 41, and Major Ngo Van Dinh, head of the Vung Ro No-Number Ship Port Liaison Board, briefed the participants on the heroic achievements of officers and soldiers of no-number vessels, which were launched to transport weapons from the north to the southern battlefields.
Located in Dong Hoa town of Phu Yen, Vung Ro port was selected to receive weapons and supplies from the no-number ships for the provinces of Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, and Dak Lak.
From November 1964 to February 1965, the port welcomed four no-number ships, three of which delivered approximately 200 tonnes of weapons and supplies to the battlefield.
Not only serving as a critical link in the strategic transportation route Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea, Vung Ro port has also become a symbol of glory for the nation, illustrating the will and aspiration to fight against foreign invaders for national reunification.
At the event, a representative from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism presented a certificate recognising the Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea in Phu Yen as a national special historic site.
