At the event, the Viet Nam Farmers’ Union Central Committee presented the “Excellent Vietnamese Farmer” title to 63 individuals and “Scientist of Farmers” to 32 others.

Highlighting the crucial role of farmers throughout the nation’s history, State President Luong Cuong praised the tireless efforts and remarkable contributions by the honourees to the cause of national construction and renewal.

He showed his respect for the farmers who, with their industriousness, creativity, and relentless efforts, have become billionaires on the fields, enriching themselves, their families, and the community; taken the lead in digital transformation in agriculture; donated land to new-style countryside development; or contributed to border defence.

The State leader stressed that agriculture, farmers, and rural areas have a critical part to play in the realisation of the two strategic centenary goals as they form a substantial force for socio-economic development, environmental protection, climate change adaptation, political stability maintenance, defence and security safeguarding, cultural preservation and promotion, and international integration.

The Viet Nam Farmers’ Union should bring into play its glorious 95-year tradition to continue fulfilling its function as the representative of the rights and legitimate interests of members and farmers, and to fruitfully implement the Party’s guidelines as well as the State’s policies and laws on agriculture, farmers, and rural areas, he went on.

President Cuong called on the union to keep arousing patriotism, confidence, self-reliance, and aspiration for richness among farmers while asking farmers to become the true centre of agricultural development, rural economy, and new-style countryside building.

The commendation of both outstanding farmers and agricultural scientists reflected the close bonds between the two forces. The move is even more meaningful this year as the Politburo recently issued Resolution No. 57- NQ/TW on breakthroughs in science – technology development, innovation, and digital transformation. Scientists’ contributions are seen as a decisive factor of breakthroughs in agriculture, farmers, and rural areas.
