On the afternoon of June 1, in the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Khmer-Viet Nam Association in Cambodia solemnly held a ceremony in Phnom Penh to announce the decision of Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior to rename the “Khmer-Viet Nam Association in Cambodia” as the “General Khmer-Viet Nam Association in Cambodia”, and to present official seals to the executive committees of 25 provincial and municipal associations as well as five member associations, namely the Youth Association, Women’s Association, Medical Practitioners’ Association, Business Association, and Elderly People’s Association.
Sim Chy, President of the General Khmer-Viet Nam Association in Cambodia, recalled the success of the 4th National Congress (2026–2031 term) held on 30 January 2026, during which delegates agreed to change the name of the Khmer-Viet Nam Association in Cambodia to the General Khmer-Viet Nam Association in Cambodia.
Sim Chy emphasised that the announcement of the decision by Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior and the handover of 33 official seals, including three seals for the General Association, 25 seals for provincial and municipal associations, and five seals for member associations, marks a significant milestone, opening a new chapter in continuing to build the General Association, local associations, and member associations into an increasingly strong pillar of support for the Vietnamese-origin community in Cambodia.
Speaking to the resident correspondent of Nhan Dan Newspaper in Cambodia, Sim Chy stated that this was also an occasion for members of the Executive Committee of the General Association, provincial and municipal associations, and member associations to uphold solidarity, continue consolidating and strengthening organisations at all levels, enhance close relations with local authorities, and further strengthen the association movement.
Congratulating the General Khmer-Viet Nam Association in Cambodia on this memorable milestone, Le Minh Ngoc, Counsellor and Head of the Community Affairs Section of the Embassy of Viet Nam in Cambodia, expressed his hope that the Executive Committee of the General Association, local associations, and member associations would remain united, operate in accordance with their charter, promptly complete organisational arrangements, and continue supporting the Vietnamese-origin community.
The Embassy of Viet Nam in Cambodia stands ready to accompany and share with association leaders in resolving difficulties, while working together to find the best solutions to help the Vietnamese-origin community in Cambodia stabilise their lives.
At the ceremony, representatives of several local and member associations expressed their honour at receiving the decision on the name change and the new official seals. They also emphasised their responsibility to further strengthen close cooperation among associations, as well as with the General Association, agencies of the Embassy of Viet Nam in Cambodia, and local authorities, in order to create more practical and effective value for the Vietnamese-origin community in Cambodia, as well as for the good-neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainable relations between Viet Nam and Cambodia.
